It has been at least 3 years since I last visited your website, because I was a former 2006 Subaru Impreza Outback Sport owner. I love the car and survived well in harsh Minnesota winters for 6 years before I moved to Washington State. But I decide to part ways with my Subaru at 180,000 miles. I had the EJ engine which is known for its head gasket issues (been there, done that, had it replaced). I live in Washington State now, currently driving a 2015 Toyota Corolla, and I am contemplating on my next vehicle purchase, which could be a Subaru. I am curious about Subaru’s 2.4 FA engine. I would like to know what is your impression about the 2.4 FA engine compared to the 3.6 EZ engine. Thanks.

Apples and Oranges I am afraid. So far the 2.4l seems to be solid, it had better be as Subaru is placing a large bet on it for the future of the platform.
I like the 3.6l for being powerful, NA and doesn’t require premium fuel. I like the 2.4l FA because it gets good economy, has a great torque curve and lends it self to power modifications.

Love your site. I blew the second turbo on my 2008 outback 2.5 XT. The first was replaced at 35,000 miles with a 2nd generation that had a bigger bore hole and I think larger oil and coolant lines. The 2nd is being rebuilt – the coolant line had collapsed (without leaking) and blocked the flow of coolant. It appears that it can only be inspected by removing the turbo – when you do the coolant lines inspections do you remove the turbo or do you circulate coolant and can tell whether any coolant line has become blocked. The coolant line was inspected when the turbo was replaced ~3 years ago. I couldn’t figure out how to reply to your turbo post or I would have put this comment there.
